16th International CTI Symposium Automotive Transmissions, HEV and EV Drives, 4 – 7 December 2017, Berlin, Germany
More than 1350 participants from 25 countries are expected to attend this year’s CTI Symposium in Berlin (4 – 7 December 2017). Symposium chair Prof. Dr Ferit Küçükay (Director of the Institute of Automotive Engineering, TU Braunschweig) will be welcoming a host of top-notch speakers including Rolf Najork (President of the Executive Board, Bosch Rexroth AG), Prof Peter Gutzmer (Chief Technology Officer, Deputy CEO, Schaeffler AG), Dr Wolfgang Warnecke (Chief Scientist Mobility, Shell), Dr Sven Beiker (Founder and Managing Director, Silicon Valley Mobility, LLC; Lecturer in Management, Stanford Graduate School of Business) and Alessandro Coda (Chief Technology Officer, CLEPA – The European Association of Automotive Suppliers).
The overarching theme could hardly be more topical. With a new era of electrified and connected mobility fast approaching, the automotive industry faces unique challenges. ¬Particularly in the drive and transmission technology sector, the pressure to innovate is now stronger than ever before.
A wide spectrum at the 16th CTI Symposium
The 16th CTI Symposium will be a fascinating forum for information and dialogue that covers a wide range of topics. These include:
- Changing mobility and market requirements
- Diversity and complexity of drive and transmission solutions for passenger cars and trucks
- Hybridisation via diverse DHTs (Dedicated Hybrid Transmissions) and add-on solutions with parallel structures
- 48V mild hybrids with various topologies and performance classes
- High power density EV drives and transmissions, high voltage systems
- New AT, DCT, CVT and MT concepts with innovations to boost efficiency and hybridisation
- All-wheel drives, including conventional drive / electric transaxle combinations
- New transmissions and electric drives for trucks and buses
- Batteries: developments in performance and energy density, life expectancy, production and costs
The topics will be covered in an extensive programme that includes around 100 specialist presentations in plenary lectures and 16 parallel sessions.
The panel discussion will also provide interesting impulses as well-known international experts from the fields of mobility, drives and transmissions explore the question “How will future mobility requirements change powertrain and transmission?”
The symposium will be flanked by the satellite exhibition Transmission Expo – one of the world’s biggest exhibitions of its kind. Around 135 exhibitors from Europe, the USA and Asia will be taking part in this ‘hands-on technology marketplace for innovative products’, where visitors can learn more about the latest developments – everything from single components to complete systems – straight from the horse’s mouth.
Where the elite compete: 9th CTI Young Drive Experts Award
The CTI Young Drive Experts Award aims to help scientific papers and young scientists cross the divide into industry, and is being held this year for the ninth time. It was created for recent graduates (Bachelor, Master or PhD) who produce outstanding work in the field of transmission and drive development. The finalists will present their findings at the symposium in the Pecha Kucha format, followed by a festive Award Ceremony for the winners.
Getting up to speed: Introductory Day for Beginners
The CTI Symposium Introductory Day provides an overview of the basics and practice of conventional automotive drive concepts and hybrid and electric drives in the form of special lectures. The day is designed for industry newcomers who wish to acquire or brush up on their basic knowledge before the main programme begins.
Where the rubber hits the road: CTI Test Drive
To round off the symposium, attendees can road test and compare the latest innovations in transmissions and drives for themselves. More than 20 vehicles will await them at the ADAC Driving Safety Center Berlin-Brandenburg, with engineers from the various vehicle and/or transmission manufacturers and suppliers on hand to answer their questions in person.
